emmy noms
The Daytime Emmy nominations were announced this week. Zuly already has shared her picks, and I have to agree with almost all of them!
Here’s my list:
edited to add... I also enjoyed checking out the prenomination list to see who each soap felt was the best. There’s a few more on those lists that I would have liked to see make it to the final nominations!!!
edited again to add... I wrote quite a long comment over at Zuly’s about the pre-nom list and who else we would have nominated.
OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES
As The World Turns
Like Zuly, I am completely enamoured by ATWT. Its been absolutely wonderful this year.
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR
Maurice Benard (Sonny, Corinthos, General Hospital)
I may not always have liked the storylines with Sonny in the past, but he never ceases to amaze me with his acting. He’s an excellent actor. Everyone has always talked about Tony Geary for so long as the top actor, but in this case, in this year, its Maurice, all the way.
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS
Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis, General Hospital)
I’d be curious to see what scenes NLG submitted for consideration. She really is an excellent actress. I don’t know that I agree with the direction that the writers are taking her now...
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR
Josh Duhamel (Leo duPres, All My Children)
Benjamin Hendrickson (Hal Munson, As The World Turns)
I’m torn here between Josh and Benjamin. Josh had some amazing storylines on AMC this last year, and they really developed his character more over that time. But like Zuly said, Benjamin’s portral of Hal is very dynamic, with so many facets.
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Rebecca Budig (Greenlee Smythe, All My Children)
Cady McClain (Rosanna Cabot, As The World Turns)
Vanessa Marcil (Brenda Barrett, General Hospital)
This category has 3 of my very favorite actresses in it. Really truly, if you asked me who my favorite out of each show I watch, this is the list. Cady McClain has make a complete transformation from the sweet Dixie to the witchy Rosanna. I am so impressed. Rebecca’s acting has been amazing through the end of Josh’s time on the show and now as the Fusion storyline comes into play, she’s been true to form. And watching Vanessa again on GH was pure joy. She not only brough continuity to the role, but with some new surprises. See my dilemna on this category?!
OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTOR
Chad Brannon (Zander Smith, General Hospital)
This isn’t a hard choice. Watching the original scenes with Chad (when he kidnapped Emily) and his scenes in the last 6 months show just how much he has grown in his acting skills.
OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTRESS
Alicia Leigh Willis (Courtney Matthews, General Hospital)
I’m surprisingly excited that she got nominated. She’s really a good new part of GH.
OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES WRITING TEAM
OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES DIRECTING TEAM
As The World Turns
Again, my amazement at ATWT makes me anxious for them to win all the major awards!
Comments
Thanks for the list of pre-nominations. I was wondering about the absence of my love, Thad Luckinbill from the Younger Actor nominations, and now I know why he was missing!! It’s nice, though, that the show put him up for Supporting Actor. I love, love, love him as JT!-- but I don’t think he could stand against the other actors in that category, because of his youth. I wonder if he hit the age restriction. Now I have to go investigate.
I have to agree with you about Alexis. I’m not sure what’s going on with her. I told Kim the other day that the fact that she would lie like that shows how clearly off her rocker she is... which I think explains why Cameron is trying to protect her.
I really, really hope ATWT gets the Emmy this year. It’s unbelievably good how they just keep coming up with good stuff that makes you not want to turn away. Today’s episode was a perfect example of all that is wonderful about ATWT.
ATWT and GH are the best two hours of my day!!
