daytime emmy nominations

Zuly posted her picks for the Daytime Emmys, and I always do this too, but I didn’t know they were out yet until I saw her post!! smile Soap Opera Central’s Emmy Nomination list, Emmy Pre-nom list (who each soap suggested for each award), and SoapCity’s pictoral version of nominees Here’s my picks:
Outstanding Drama Series
  • As The World Turns
  • The Bold and the Beautiful
  • General Hospital
  • Guiding Light
  • The Young and the Restless
This year has been fantastic on ATWT. Considering that it was never in the list of "top" soaps when I was in college and watched a lot of them, its really come far. Days must really suck these days to not make it into this list.
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR
  • Roger Howarth (Paul Ryan, As the World Turns)
  • Maurice Benard (Sonny, Corinthos, General Hospital)
  • Anthony Geary (Luke Spencer, General Hospital)
  • Grant Aleksander (Phillip Spaulding, Guiding Light)
  • Thorsten Kaye (Ian Thornhart, Port Charles)
  • Eric Braeden (Victor Newman, The Young and the Restless)
Its cool that Thorsten made it into this listing, I would have thought PC was over before 2003 started. And even though I am a big fan of Maurice these days, I have to go with Roger Howarth. Even though he wasn’t on ATWT for the full year, his acting has been fantabulous, and he really made the character his own. Tony Geary didn’t have any storylines I remember being super this last year.
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS
  • Maura West (Carly Snyder, As the World Turns)
  • Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis, General Hospital)
  • Tamara Braun (Carly Corinthis, General Hospital)
  • Kim Zimmer (Reva Shayne, Guiding Light)
  • Michelle Stafford (Phyllis Somers, The Young and the Restless)
But why not Martha Byrne? I thought for sure she’d be on this list. I mean, her acting of two parts in the well storyline should have been enough to get her in, but Rose’s death was in 2003 also. How could they overlook her?? Maura did have her share of amazing storylines over the year (sleeping with Mike the night before her wedding, reconciling with Jack, getting married, dealing with JJ and Sage’s birth). NLG is always great, but Tamara Braun has been wonderful. Kim and Michelle have won a bunch of times!
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR
  • William deVry (Michael Cambias, All My Children)
  • James Reynolds (Abe Carver, Days of Our Lives)
  • Rick Hearst (Ric Lansing, General Hospital)
  • Ron Raines (Alan Spaulding, Guiding Light)
  • Christian LeBlanc (Michael Baldwin, The Young and the Restless)
Even though Rick Hearst had significant storylines during the last year, I really don’t like how he played the character so much... his acting hasn’t made me "love to hate" Ric. But William deVry has. And AMC has done a great job of keeping him on the canvas even after death in flashbacks/hauntings. I hope he wins. smile
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS
  • Cady McClain (Rosanna Cabot, As The World Turns)
  • Ilene Kristen (Roxy Balsom, One Life to Live)
  • Kathy Brier (Marcy Walsh, One Life to Live)
  • Sharon Case (Sharon Newman, The Young and the Restless)
  • Heather Tom (Victoria Newman, The Young and the Restless)
Cady is a great actress, although I won’t be surprised if Kathy Brier’s storyline was strong enough to get this - Marcy and Al were really fan favorites. I’m surprised that Alicia Minshew (Kendall, AMC) isn’t on this list. Hopefully next year.
OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTOR
  • Agim Kaba (Aaron Snyder, As the World Turns)
  • Chad Brannon (Zander Smith, General Hospital)
  • Scott Clifton (Dillon Quartermaine, General Hospital)
  • Brian Presley (Jack Ramsey, Port Charles)
  • David Lago (Raul Guittierez, The Young and the Restless)
I like a lot of the stuff Agim Kaba did this last year, and Chad Brannon, too. But the person who stands out in a crowd for his range and impish smile is Scott.
OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTRESS
  • Eden Riegel (Bianca Montgomery, All My Children)
  • Jennifer Finnigan (Bridget Forrester, The Bold and the Beautiful)
  • Alicia Leigh Willis (Courtney Matthews, General Hospital)
  • Lauren Woodland (Brittany Hodges, The Young and the Restless)
  • Crystal Khalil (Lily Winters, The Young and the Restless)
Natalia Livingston (Emily, GH) did a great job with the breast cancer storyline, and that should have been recognized with a nomination. With the great work that Scott Clifton did this year, I think that Lindze Leatherman (Georgie) would be here instead of Alicia Leigh Willis. But if Eden Riegel doesn’t win this, someone is seriously screwed up. She has been amazing. They could just give her this award right now and be done with it. wink
OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES WRITING TEAM
  • All My Children
  • As The World Turns
  • General Hospital
  • The Young and the Restless
You’ll notice that I gave outstanding drama to ATWT, but writing to GH. Why? I think GH had some stronger storylines than ATWT at times of the year, and that’s the writing talking.

Comments

I can’t disagree with any of your picks... the one I *really* think should win is Scott Clifton—I will never forget that scene where he goes to buy condoms... now that was awesome acting!!
