Why your site needs a favicon

Why your site needs a favicon

Increasingly, modern web browsers (such as Mozilla, Firebird, Opera and Safari, to name but a few) feature a tabbed interface for browsing multiple pages, within one application window, drastically freeing up desktop and taskbar space. Inevitably, browser windows eventually become choked with multiple pages and navigation within these windows can soon become as hard as it used to be on the taskbar. This is precisely why, aside from aesthetic values, all sites should, where possible, embrace the "favicon".

Excellent explanation for why favicons are needed and even has a screenshot to illustrate it perfectly - it looks like a screenshot of my browser how it is right now laughing ! I was thinking about opening up photoshop and making one for VirtualVenus this afternoon because I had so many windows open and it was hard to tell which one was the Wiki while I was going back and forth answering questions on the MT forums—I think this article must be a sign that I should be doing that wink

Can you see my favicons? The mt-plugins site has a little plug on it and the letters MT, and love-productions (with kadyellebee and all the other sites it hosts) has a little rounded square with a heart and a "K" for Kristine. I love the MT icon, its a little gear from their logo.

Since I’m using Mozilla Firebird, it might help to mention that I’m using the Tabbrowser Extension, and that makes the favicons show up on the tabs. I’m not sure if they do it as nicely without that extension. I heart Firebird!

[via CogWorks News, who got it from Asa, who I normally read, but upon installing the new beta of FeedDemon, I accidently wiped out a few channels of feeds. Oops! Now he’s back where he belongs in my list!]

Sorry can’t see your fav icon and I using IE6. Hang on just got it in NS7.1 how ironic is that! Nice but it’s not you - though it does suit the site very well! Check mine out www.simoncox.com - it’s me!
