cfs and blogathon
Feeling like some hypothetic situation babble ;)
If I was to participate in the blogathon, I would pick a charity that deals with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I bet there are no bloggers doing that, because if its a cause near to their heart, they probably are too tired to do 24 hours in a row!!! I’d do little quips like "I’ve fallen... and I don’t wanna get up!" and "uhhhh.... what was I doing again?!!!"
I think I’d try to give some money to the CFIDS self-help group because it was a really positive experience for me to go through their course; and I think others could benefit even if they weren’t able to afford the classes. And then there’s always CFIDS for the official site.
While I was surfing through some CFS bookmarks, I found this quote:
(WARNINGS! Please consult an aromatherapist before using ANY oil if you are pregnant or have high blood pressure, epilepsy, severe allergic responses or asthma. Never apply essential oils directly onto the skin - always combine with base oil. Avoid accidental ingestion - Keep out of reach of children and pets!
- Environmental Stress (fluorescent light, ringing phones) - use cedarwood, chamomile or bergamot.
- Mental Stress (finances, unemployment, taking exams) - use patchouli, lavender or sandalwood.
- Emotional Stress (grief, guilt, relationship problems) - use sandalwood, rose or cardamom.
- Chemical Stress (inhaling smoke, overdoing caffeine, food or alcohol, pollution) - use lemon, patchouli or rosemary
- Physical Stress (overdoing exercise, driving long distances, fatigue) - use chamomile, lavender or geranium.
I think I need to get some of these. The physical stress is probably the worse for me right now. So maybe I’ll look at some lavendar or chamomile I like those scents anyhow. Speaking of which, I have a lavendar eye pillow I should drag out and use - its got Lavendar and Mint inside of this soft elephant body (from GardenBotanika, many years ago). I bet that would be a good thing.

Do you know of any other bloggers with the illness? If so you could all join forces and do a group blog for the cause, being assigned a certain block of time to update so that you all don’t get too tired.

I like Lynda’s idea; I think staying up for 24 hours in a row is a little nuts, even if you didn’t have an illness that made it extra difficult! And I the blogathonners, even so!

you know another option apart from the cotton ball that might make it a little more aesthetically pleasing would be to got an oil burner like this one. that way you have a candle burning in a nice dish and then you get the benefit of the oil too. and i know how much you like candles!

I second Jane’s suggestion of an oil burner. I have one, and I absolutely love it. Lavender and chamomile seem to help me relax enough to go to sleep when my brain is running so fast that I can’t otherwise go to sleep. I also have a lavender eye pillow (not from GardenBotanika though) that’s really nice.
The idea about doing a group blog for blogathon is a good one if you’re interested in that. There are several group efforts already in blogathon.

Actually, Lynda’s got a good idea there! I wouldn’t suggest it for non-CFS people, because the point of the Blogathon is that you do something hard to raise money for the cause. But given the situation, it makes sense! I still haven’t decided if I’m going to do it, and if so for which charity. Hrm.

1) Lavender is excellent. And you can get a really cool lavender essential oil kit at The Body Shop and an oil burner, too. The kit comes with pillow spray (mmmm), the oil for the burner and (the best part) this little pot of balm for your temples—awesome for when a headache is coming on or you just need to mellow out. Check it out—it’s awesome. Also, talk to Kim at thymewise.net about essential oils and preparations—she’s the queen of that stuff, and can give you some good advice.
2) I asked Seymour if I could do the blogathon, and he said no, because 24 hours would wreck me for about a week. I wanted to do something for breast cancer. But I know how you feel about wanting to do it, hon! We’re in the same boat!! Maybe we can make that a goal for ourselves in the future—to be able to participate by getting healthy enough!!

I’m not doing it for the same reason. I have enough trouble getting to my part time job and keeping a house with CFS (i’m in the recovery stages luckily).
When you have a minute, could you drop me a quick email, I’d like to ask you a couple of MT questions. I think it was you that was helping me with Robyn last time I had trouble.
Ta muchly.
