more on trackback
By request of Christine, I’m trying to write up an explanation in plain english about Trackback
There are so many uses for Trackback, but I want to start talking about the one that is going to be used on most blogs first, because its the most easily used feature.
So say Robyn posts a link about the new dynamite-shaped World Trade Center designs. I’m really interested in this, and so I want to talk more about it. I could just leave some comments about it and then post about it on my own site. But instead, I’ll use trackback and let the conversations be connected. I get into my bookmarklet from Robyn’s page and pick the trackback data for "A New World order" from the drop down box... and then I type up my post. I can leave in the automatically generated link to Robyn’s page so others know where I got my info in the first place. And when I post it, it will leave a ping for Robyn so she knows that I talked about the post some on my page. And when Robyn lists the trackback pings with her post, it lets her other readers who are completely fanatical about the WTC design see who else is talking about it on their blogs.
Think of this as the next generation of comments, with a handy way of knowing WHO is talking about you w/o scouring your referrals for links that people may have had to your site.
There are so many other uses for it, but I thought I’d post this one because several people had expressed an interest in knowing more about what TrackBack is.
Mena’s test blog has tons of other examples.

I DO NOT like the World Trade Center designs. My honest opinion about the rebuilding of the trade center is this. REBUILD THE WORLD TRADE CENTER TOWERS HIGHER AND BETTER. There is 16 acres of land and it shouldn’t be all used for a memorial. They could rebuild the towers and have a memorial around the buildings. People complain too much about our economy, but what about the owners of the stores who depended on the WTC workers.
If we don’t rebuild the towers as they used to be, Osama bin Laden and his terrorists win the war. Think about it.
Take care!
