Washington Fast Facts and Trivia
Before it became a state, the territory was called Columbia (named after the Columbia River). When it was granted statehood, the name was changed to Washington, supposedly so people wouldn’t confuse it with The District of Columbia.
Ahhh, I remember reading this in a historical novel and I didn’t know after that point if it was just a myth or real Kinda funny that we still have to say Washington State so that people don’t confuse us with DC

I just realized, we got that book along with a few other captain underpants' for christmas from my sister in law hehe. I’m still trying to figure out if she had some hidden meaning in giving us those books
