I particularly liked her comparison to publically funded research:
People in academia realize the only way we’re going to get anywhere is if we inspire each other and build on each other’s work. So they cite and reference like mad, and give each other the recognition that’s deserved. And everybody’s happy.
Why don’t web designers and programmers do this as freely?
