A show for lovers
First recorded in a Chinese manuscript written in AD 36, the Perseid shower has been enjoyed by astronomers and lovers alike for thousands of years. How fitting, that this romantic shower be named for Perseus, the constellation where the shower originates.
In Greek mythology, the bold, Medusa-slaying Perseus rescued the Princess Andromeda as she was about to be sacrificed to a sea monster. Later, they ended up tying the knot.
