Welcome to the visitors coming from Everything TypePad! My addition to the series of Tip posts is now available at Dressing Up Your Weblog with a Banner Image. TypePad makes this kind of thing so easy, but lots of people wonder how to do these things in the series every day. So it was fun for our team writing spotlights on the features.
Similar banner addons to your Movable Type site can be done when using the default MT 3.2 templates. That’s basically what I’m doing with my layout here, the MT stylesheet just tweaked in various ways.
In many cases, it’s as simple as uploading an image that’s the width of your weblog, and then adding this to the end of your stylesheet:
#banner { height:154px; }
#banner-inner { background: url(http://example.com/image.gif) no-repeat; }
#banner-header a {
display: block;
left: 0; top: 0;
height: 154px;
text-indent: -1000em;
}
For the height values (it’s in there twice), enter the height of your image. And for the URL, enter where you have uploaded your image. The #banner-header a will just make it so that the banner image links to your weblog.
Again, this will only work with the default template structure! That’s where those css selectors come from.

Thanks for your article on TypePad. I did set up the 'Google Search' buttons on my weblog. However, on the search within my blog, I am not getting any responses. How can I setup a search bar and button similar to the one you have on this blog on the left sidebar.
