Newzcrawler BlogIt!
With everybody jumping on the NewzCrawler bandwagon, I thought I’d write up some tips for using the blogging feature inside of the program. Here’s my fast tips
Disclaimer: I’m using NewzCrawler version 1.4.0 build 1373 and Movable Type 2.62.
Inside of Newzcrawler, click on the Channel menu and select New > Blog Site (If you don’t see this option, make sure you are clicked on the My Blogs section of the Channel Tree. This is in the lefthand sidebar of the main program.)
A popup will appear to fill out. Use these settings:
Name: [fill in your site name]
Blog service: select custom... from the drop down box
Username: [fill in your MT username]
Password: [fill in your MT password]
Now go to the Server Settings tab (which won’t appear until you fill out the first tab’s info)
XML-RPC API: select MovableType from the drop down box
Host: [fill in your domain name: mine says love-productions.com with no www in front of it]
Endpoint: [fill in the location of your mt-xmlrpc.cgi file: mine says /mt/mt-xmlrpc.cgi]
Port: I left this as the default of 80.
Now when you are viewing any news feed, you can click the B! button to bring up a screen to blog in. It will fill in some of the information for you. You’ll want to select your blog at the top of the screen from the drop down box if you have multiple blogs. Then type your post in the text area. You can choose from the WYSIWYG or Source tabs.
The categories are still not working perfectly [known issue], but in theory, you should be able to use the category sidebar on the righthand side; select a category from the drop down, and then if you have a secondary category, check the box next to the name below the drop down.
Then when you are done with your post, click PUBLISH from the toolbar. It will give you a status report on the status bar when its complete. You can also use POST, but you’ll have to log into MT and save the entry again to get it to show up on your site.
Until you’ve registered for the program, you’ll get a posted by newzcrawler message on the bottom of your post. Since I was trying it out with the intention of buying it, I just edited the posts to take the message off.

hmm... my MT doesn’t think it told your MT I pinged you, but your MT got the ping.

I am using the same version of Newzcrawler, but I haven’t paid for it yet. *sigh* I guess that’s why I can’t blog from it yet - but I will be buying it tomorrow!

Thanks for the tips! I really enjoy Newz Crawler and I’m still fudging around with the blog tool. I’m glad that they are working on the category bug. Right now I just post using Newz Crawler and then if I have to make a change I quickly fire up w.bloggar (my other favorite tool) and change the category or what not. Sometimes I notice that Newz Crawler adds some unneccessary line breaks in the WYSIWYG mode, so I tend to use the source tab. Great tool though, thanks for the recommendation!

OH I LOVE YOU!
Endpoint - *smacks head* I couldn’t figure out what it (Newz Crawler) wanted. It’s just like w.bloggar, but they both call it something different. I don’t feel like such a dork now

Be careful when publishing from Newzcrawler. I accidentally chose post and it somehow corrupted my db and I had to recreate my whole blog. I think it was me being impatient and I might have interupted the posting process but it still sucked. Thanks for the tutorial Kristine!

Geez...this was so helpful, and I posted a link to it, and MT was helpful enough to ping you, but for heaven’s sakes—every time I update the post, it pings you again and for some reason can’t figure out that the ping was successful. Sorry for the outrageous ping count!
I’ll just quit updating the post now.
