friday five 080202
Its a history version of the Friday Five!
- What is your lineage? Where are your ancestors from? My dad’s family is mainly Lithuanian (explains the last name of Locatis, doesn’t it?!) and my mom’s family is mainly English. But there’s lots of little things in there combined too.
- Of those countries, which would you most like to visit? England - I went when I was 8, but I’d love to go again now that I’m old enough to enjoy it.
- Which would you least like to visit? Why? I don’t think that going to Lithuania would be the highlight of my life. Why? I don’t think that with being part of Russia that its a very historically rich place to visit, nor do I speak the language, so I don’t think I overly want to go. I could be wrong in my assumptions, but that’s what I think.
- Do you do anything during the year to celebrate or recognize your heritage? I can’t think of anything I do to celebrate either country’s traditions. My mom bakes Pasties, and they are english. Yum.
- Who were the first ancestors to move to your present country (parents, grandparents, etc)? Its my parents grandparents that came to the USA. My dad remembers his grandpa speaking Lithuanian and playing the accordian. My mom knows that her grandfather was a cole miner in Cornwall, England before he came to Michigan to be a miner in the Upper Peninsula.
