News: New CD protection won’t play on PCs
Yes, I’ve taken advantage of the fact that I have high speed internet and downloaded mp3s. But I am still a purchaser of CDs and plan to continue to do so when I find songs I like.
Speaking of which. Song stuck in my head right now - Jonatha Brooke: New Dress. Wanna hear? [mp3]
NEW DRESS
lyrics from Jonatha’s Webpage
Shatter the plate now
Crush the glass
And all the things I’ve carried
I put them down at last
I keep my promise
Some days better than my heart
But like little paper valentines
This is where we start
Cuz you take me to the window, love
And you leave the light on
You take off my uniform
And say baby put this new dress
Baby put this new dress on
You pull me from my corner
You promise not to laugh
I’m afraid you’ll see right through me
But I’m afraid that I will never get enough
Cuz you take me to the window, love
And you leave the light on
You take off my uniform
And say baby put this new dress
Baby put this new dress on
From your window I can see the endless ocean blue
From your window I can finally see that I love you
I love you
So take me to the window, love
And leave the light on
Come take off my uniform
And say baby put this new dress
Take me to the window, love
And leave the light on
Come take off my uniform
And say baby put this new dress
Baby put this new dress
Baby put this new dress on.....

We don’t own an actual cd player - we just use our cd room. That would make me sad, cause we really can’t afford a stereo right now.

I think this sucks. I listen to music at work that I have ripped to our server so I don’t have to cart a million CDs around. I do the same thing on my computer at home.

i don’t have a cd player at school, and neither does my roommate. and when i go home, i’m actually thinking about selling my cd player. i *always* use my cd-rom drive, and if i could get $100 for it.... amen. i need the cash right now.
so, from my pov, it looks like the CD companies are screwing themselves over... because i won’t be buying any new cd’s if i can’t play them on my cd-rom. i’m sure that there’s a lot of people that feel the same way.

I agree. We also keep all our CD’s ripped and on the server just so we don’t have to dig them out all the time or carry them around rather then picking up the little mp3 player. If it’s a good CD I buy it; that simple.
