monte cristo
In honor of E watching the Count of Monte Cristo, I had to look this up:
Monte Cristo Sandwich - Though this sandwich tends to vary from restaurant to restaurant, the basic sandwich is two slices of white bread containing ham, turkey, or chicken, and a slice of cheese are dipped in beaten egg and fried in butter. A classic Monte Cristo sandwich should come with a side of jelly to dip it in.
I remember my aunt eating one of these in a restaurant in Michigan, but I wasn’t sure if I remembered the ingredients right. Sounds good to me

I’ve never had one, but I believe that the Bennegin’s (?) restaurant chain deep fries them. I’ve been pretty much afraid to try them.
Are they a Michigan thing?

I was always afraid to try them too. I had one at Bennigans once and they are DEVINE!

I’ve had one of those! From a little local restaurant. Didn’t come with jelly, though. Wish it had - it was a little bland. But still yummy.

They are definitely yummy at Bennigan’s, but I can’t even finish a fourth of the sandwich, they’re so big!

Did you read about Lord Sandwich? That’s interesting too, I read about it in a restaurant called Lord Sandwich how this Lord came up with the idea of putting food between two slices of bread.

The best Monte Cristo Sandwich I have had was in Sedona Arizona. I can’t remember the restaurant but I haven’t had one quite like it yet. Bennigans is fairly close.

Actually no one makes THE Monte Cristo sandwich as good as a deli that is on Van Nuys Blvd, north of Ventura Blvd, in Van Nuys, CA. There is another restaurant in Glendale, CA that serves this delicious sandwich, also. The ones I have eaten come with three slices of bread and are always deep fried.
