SMG and buffy
Gellar Will Exit 'Buffy' in May
sad news for buffy fans...
While Gellar has given Entertainment Weekly an exclusive regarding her departure for its March 7 issue, sources close to the UPN series confirm to Zap2it.com that the actress will not be part of the cast should "Buffy" return in the fall.
I iknow, its still up in the air about what happens with the series, but without SMG? She makes the show great, even though I love her co-stars a lot. Ah, well, I guess we’ll see what happens!

It would be hard to get into it with someone else, it’s just not the same...

Oh dear, that’s not good news at all! As for the series being renewed...how can they have a show called "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" without a Buffy? (If they pull a Dick York/Dick Sargeant switcheroo, the show will surely jump the shark.)

That’s definitely a bummer. I was hearing rumors of a Faith spin off but I don’t remember where. Solly!

no Faith spinoff is likely since Eliza Dushku has a new pilot signed with Fox.
personally, i would prefer there BE no more spinoffs... they have a wonderful way of degrading the quality of the original series (and in this case, Angel). There has been talk of more spinoffs, including handing the stake over to Buffy’s little sis, Dawn (Michelle Trachtenberg). These are, though, all speculation and rumour, and so should be taken lightly. Most likely, this is the last season of Buffy, which in a way is good; Joss really wanted to show to go on no more than seven years as I understand it, the writing is starting to lack a lot, and it should go before the show gets bad, so we’ll always have fond memories of it.

I’m relatively new to the show and I’m still working through re-runs (season four at the moment) so my attachment and affection for BtVS is still growing. Having said that, I would not want to see the show continue without Buffy... it would lose its core, not just because of the show’s name, but because the cast have built so much around Buffy as well as the characters and situation. Angel might be the exception when it comes to spin-offs, but I honestly can’t see any other show after this one. It got lucky with its premise and fan-base, but as we’ve seen with Star Trek, too many series simply spoil the fun.
The real question, I think, is how are the writers going to end it? I may have to break my self-imposed restriction against seeing new episodes just to catch the final five, even if I’m clueless as to what’s happened between "Restless" and now.

As you noted in a previous post, BtVS is the show that’s broken all the rules. While I’d be sad to see it end, they killed the possibility of "Dawn the Vampire Slayer" a few weeks ago.

Michelle Trachtenberg from Buffy is starring in a new movie called EuroTrip. Anyone else heard about it yet? Michelle looks so good and the movie looks really funny.
